There is an exciting new web series I’d like to share with you that is taking the small business scene in D.C. by storm! Bizwork.TV, the brainchild of longtime digital marketer and brand specialist Mayra Ruiz-McPherson and Northern Virginia based photographer and creative director Karina Djijo, covers topics of interest to small and medium-sized businesses, bloggers, and entrepreneurs.
Of course, I LOVE talking about domains, so I was thrilled when Mayra contacted me about being on the show! This is the first of two episodes – we had so much more information to cover that we actually filmed a second show, set to air in early 2014.
I would like to personally thank Mayra for the great interview — it was a blast, and I hope her viewers can benefit from it. The idea for her domain show came from this Wall Street Journal article in July. In Episode #004, I cover the different types of domain listings a business owner might encounter, how to go about placing an offer, and why it’s good to research comparable sales before approaching a domain owner. We also go over different branding approaches, including the advantages and possible drawbacks of using vanity extensions or ccTLDs like .ly and .CO, and a few strategies for startups and entrepreneurs for whom a premium, one-word .COM is out of reach. I also share a little about how I got started in domaining, and how the domain industry rose to prominence in the 1990s and 2000s.
You can watch the episode by going directly to Bizwork.TV. If you like the show, have a question, or want to thank Mayra for including domains as an important part of small business marketing, please leave a comment below the video!
Stay tuned for the follow-up episode in early 2014, featuring my “Top 10 Dos and Dont’s for Small Business Domain Owners”!
